Sparta Steak House & Lounge

Location : Sparta Steak House & Lounge 1101 12th St NW, Canton
(330) 454-6343 Is located in the heart of Canton. You have to remember not to judge a book by it's cover. When Sparta opened, this was a beautiful neighborhood. But now it is an urban setting. I wasn't worried because I saw two police officers enter before me and I felt safe. Once inside I felt as if the clock rolled back to years gone by and I wished the walls could talk. A decorative wooden bar lines the far wall of the spacious dimly lit dining room. The setting is dated, but has loads of character. It's charming for most but could be a bit challenging for those who don't get around to well. The bathrooms are downs stairs. Location is a B-

The Food: The appetizer that I was served was not worth ordering again, but the dinner portions are generous so skip the appetizers. I must say however that The Sparta is my new place for a great cut of beef. When it comes to a great steak there are two very important things; the quality of the cut and the way that it is cooked/prepared. There isn't much that you can say about a perfectly cooked quality steak. It was fresh, juicy and delicious. The quality is Top Shelf and the sides were not fancy, but were the perfect compliment for the best Steak that I've had in some time. Do you and your family a favor and skip the long lines at the Big Box Chain steakhouses and come to the SPARTA ! Food is an A

The Service : I like a place that treats me like a king and gets me what I want. That's how service is supposed to be. Let's face it this is a Mom & Pop steakhouse. The service is great and ownership is present. The chains need to take a lesson and visit the Sparta Steak House & Lounge. Service gets an A +

Almost Heaven Ice Cream

The Location: Almost Heaven Ice Cream is in a very nice country setting located in Stark County. Officially 6590 Middlebranch Ave NE Canton OH 44721 330-587-1094. Almost Heaven Ice Cream is the perfect distance for a nice drive into the country for a fantastic feast for you frosty frenzy. The building was recently constructed and is an exceptionally clean facility for making their specialties. There is spacious parking and clean shaded areas to enjoy that are free from bees and other pests. They also have a drive thru and they accept credit and debit cards. Rated A+

The Food: Move over Ben and uh, uh what was that other guys name? Seriously this is hands down the very BEST HOMEMADE ICE CREAM that I have ever tasted!! And it's not only the Ice Cream itself, if that makes any sense to you, it is the quality of the product as a whole. When they hand you a cone of butter pecan ice cream and you sink your face into this creamy cold concoction you are ALMOST IN HEAVEN. When they first handed me a cone I was so impressed with the generosity of whole pecans and the rich cream that I had to check out the other flavors like chocolate almond, buckeye, strawberry too many to name. Bring a cooler because you'll want to take some home. Wow, I really can't say enough about the ice cream but the ALL BEEF CONEY's and HOMEMADE SAUCE are also a great value and very tasty. Food is an A+

The Service: ALMOST HEAVEN ICE CREAM is a family owned and operated business. I was there so many times last season I think I met everyone from the Owner to His son and the rest of the friendly bunch. Service is Great This is an A + business and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Little Chicago Bistro

Location 585 Market Ave. N Canton OH 44702 This is your typical Downtown setting with a combination of Big Churches and tall buildings poka dotting a landscape filled with old unkept warehouses. In the midst of the urbaness atmosphere a diner must mine the field for a gem. This was NOT one of them. Location gets a C

Note to the propreiter: Please drop the BISTRO and just call your self a bar. Leave the Resaturant business to those who posess the passion required to please the public. When we entered we were in this large rather decent downtown bar bustling with activity and people. As diners we chose to be seated in the dining room. The dining room was an adequite size, with its best feature being a nice view of the Market St. The table arrangements could be slanted giving all of its guests a view of the downtown street. This room is lacking at best. Use the street, the artwork doesn't quite work for my taste, no offense to the artist. It is a shame all of the eliments are here but they just haven't been tied together. I will comment that I found everthing on my table to be clean, however I did not find any salt or pepper on it. NO SPARKLING water. Little Chicago should have some Pelligrino on stock.....Oh paper towels in the men's room would be nice along with SCROD SCAMPI and SCALLOPS. To be out of these thing on a Saturday evening is unexceptable.

The FOOD The calamari was the best dish that I had out of Four. It was lightly breaded and fried seved with red and green peppers. It was cooked to the proper temperature and we were on our way to a par meal. The Lobter Bisque was very average. I was not impressed. The rest of our meal was adiquite at best and not woth my time writing about. Do not visit this resaurant unless you drunk or desparate. It was a dissapointment to say the least. Food is a C

The Service : I have had better and I've had worse. Maybe she would have been less nervous if they actually had something on the menu in stock. I feel bad for the wait staff due to the lack of any Saturday Night crowd in the dining area. Service was a B

Overall Rating is a C-

Crave

CRAVE Review date SATURDAY July 19, 2008 6:30pm Reservation

Location: It is a safe friendly little block located in right in downtown Akron OH. It’s easy to get to and valet parking is offered for $4.00 so bring a little change.

Decor: A This is a remodeled downtown brick building, but not your typical warehouse style remodeled restaurant. The layout is very open and the restaurant seems to flow with a warm energy which is conducive to Martini Dining. There are several levels which gives CRAVE not just a “large room” effect but a vertical layout which is I found to be fabulous. The color scheme a pleasant combination of warm orange tones with rustic brink and patches of drywall. Blown glass ornamental lighting provides a great atmosphere. Snob says it is a bit noisy and the layout may be difficult for physically challenged guests.

Food: B+ Crave has a very extensive and extremely creative menu. Prices are quite fare for the portion sizes. This is not your typical menu of chicken, pork, beef, fish, and pasta. The chefs at Crave have successfully created the “new” experience of dining that many restaurants in our area lack. It is refreshing to see things that may sound a bit daring or to many casual diners confusing. It adds to the excitement of being pleasantly surprised by your chef and not knowing exactly what to expect when your meal arrives. Overall I grade the creativity and presentation an A but some work may need to be done with the execution of the product coming out of the kitchen. The meat was cooked to the perfect temperature however the sides left a little bit to be desired.

Service: We started off with a dirty plate. The drinks came with no cocktail napkins. The server although friendly and knowledgeable soaked my appetizer as she reached to refill my water glass. A loud manager and hostess seemed to hover over our table and discuss available seating options. Remember I am The FOOD SNOB service gets a C.
